Day 2

Enjoy a full day of activities at Kwetsani Camp. Kwetsani Camp offers excellent land and water activities. In the summer, these tend more towards game drives, whereas in the winter, mainly water-based activities are offered.

Morning and afternoon game drives are offered in open 4×4 Land Rovers. In times of high water guests are transferred by boat to game drive areas. Night drives with spotlights allow you to find those nocturnal animals you wouldn’t see during normal daytime drives. Porcupine, aardwolf, serval, large spotted genet and lesser bushbaby are just some of these.

There is no better way of viewing the Delta and its wildlife than by traditional mokoro (dugout canoe), often revealing the smaller critters of the Okavango Delta and fascinating waterbirds of the region. In summer, guests are driven to the water for this activity. Boating is another idyllic form or water wildlife viewing often yielding fabulous sightings of hippo and crocodile and maybe even the elusive sitatunga.

The Jao Concession has outstanding birding opportunities. With water and land activities, opportunities to grow your list are excellent. Wattled cranes, slaty egrets, rosy-throated longclaws, Pel’s fishing-owls and African skimmers are some of the ‘specials,’ while more common coppery-tailed coucals and pygmy goose are also seen.

Enjoy a full day of game viewing activities at Little Vumbura Plains Camp. Due to its location, Little Vumbura offers a number of ways to observe the spectacular wildlife of this diverse concession.

Morning and afternoon game drives in open 4×4 Land Rovers allow you to get close to animals in the savannah areas where lion, leopard, elephant, sable and buffalo along with extensive plains game roam. While night drives with spotlights allow you to find those nocturnal animals you wouldn’t see during the day. Porcupine, aardwolf, serval, large spotted genet and lesser bushbaby are just some of these.

Explore the Okavango by traditional mokoro (dugout canoe) often providing up close and personal sightings of tiny frogs and exciting birdlife. Water-level dependent, boating is another idyllic form of water wildlife viewing. Sights of hippo and crocodile are common in the waterways.

A nature walk with a skilled, armed guide is a wonderful way of getting close to nature and observing the smaller creatures and plants you miss when traveling by vehicle. (on request and subject to availability of a qualified guide)

Visit one of the traditional villages of the Okavango Community Trust, meet the people and learn about the local culture. (additional cost)

Day 7

Enjoy a full day of game viewing activities at Savuti Camp. Due to the location on the Savute Channel and in the Linyanti Concession, Savuti has spectacular wildlife viewing opportunities. Game viewing tops the agenda here.

Morning and afternoon game drives in open 4 x 4 Land Rovers reveal the rich wildlife of the area where predators and elephant are often the highlight. Plains game and diverse birdlife also offer fantastic sightings. While night drives with spotlights allow you to find those nocturnal animals you wouldn’t see during the day. These often include lesser bushbaby, spring hare, aardwolf, serval, large spotted genet and, if you are extremely lucky, the elusive pangolin!

Nature walks with skilled, armed guides are wonderful ways of getting close to nature and observing the smaller things you miss when traveling by vehicle. (depending on availability of a qualified guide)

There are a number of platforms and hides from which to view and photograph animals and birds. One of the best hides is right at the source of the Savute Channel, from which many species of game and birdlife can be seen.

Water levels permitting, explore the Linyanti River by boat or barge, the latter perfect for picnics or sundowners or searching out those elusive birds so prevalent in the channels.

Seasonal fishing is permitted on a catch-and-release basis. The camp has a small stock of basic rods and reels.

Birding is outstanding here, from Okavango specials to mopane woodland species. The Savute Channel is famous for its high concentration of eagles and raptors; this area is internationally recognised as an IBA (Important Bird Area).
