Botswana & Zimbabwe Bush Camps

Upon arrival in Maun, Botswana, you will be met and assisted onto the scheduled charter flight to the Okavango Delta. Upon arrival you will arrival you will be met and transferred to Khwai Tented Camp where you will stay for two nights. Arrive in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive.

Khwai Tented Camp is located on a beautiful site within a community-run concession on the eastern border of the Moremi Game reserve, on the banks of a lagoon flowing into the Khwai river, which acts as a boundary between the reserve and the community area.

Day 1

Upon arrival in Maun, Botswana, you will be met and assisted onto the scheduled charter flight to the Okavango Delta. Upon arrival you will arrival you will be met and transferred to Khwai Tented Camp where you will stay for two nights. Arrive in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive. Khwai Tented Camp is located on a beautiful site within a community-run concession on the eastern border of the Moremi Game reserve, on the banks of a lagoon flowing into the Khwai river, which acts as a boundary between the reserve and the community area. The camp preserves the romance of yester-year, a simpler life in harmony with nature. Guests can enjoy spacious and comfortable tented accommodation, beds, and private en-suite bathrooms with flush toilets and bucket showers under the stars.

Day 2

The camp offers visitors several unique ways to experience Africa. Besides the day-time drives which can feature Africa’s big attractions – lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, elephant, buffalo, hippo and giraffe – guests at Khwai Tented Camp are able to explore nature after sunset with a night drive. This activity, along with the guided walking safaris, is not usually permitted in the National Parks or Game Reserves, and allows guests to get an up close and personal experience with some of Africa’s nocturnal and / or more elusive animals. The camp also provides the opportunity to explore the great stands of leadwood and mopane woodlands as well as open grasslands and banks of the Khwai River on foot.

Day 3

After the morning activity and breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip for the scheduled charter flight to the Linyanti region. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to LInyanti Bush Camp where you will stay for three nights. Arrive in time for lunch and an afternoon activity. Bordering the western boundary of Chobe in the Chobe Enclave, the Linyanti Bush Camp is an intimate 12-bedded tented camp on the banks of the Linyanti marshes in a private reserve. Accommodation at the Linyanti Bush Camp is far from primitive with spacious tents, comfortable beds, and en-suite bathrooms with flush toilets, fixed showers and hot water. An abundance of wildlife roams freely between the woodland habitats, ancient floodplains and forests that make up the lush Kwando-Linyanti river system. The big game in this area increases dramatically during the dry season when the area hosts large herds of impala, blue wildebeest, giraffe and buffalo as well as the world’s highest density of elephant. Several packs of wild dog are found in the area and lion, leopard and cheetah are frequently sighted. Night drives allow for the discovery of nocturnal creatures such as civets, genets, honey badgers and spring hares.

Day 4

Activities from the camp include game drives, walking safaris, game viewing from hides, spot-lighting, bird watching, boating and fishing safaris as well as guided mokoro safaris, when water levels permit. The Linyanti Bush Camp offers the perfect setting for an authentic and wild safari experience. As the only source of water in the dry months, the Linyanti marshes are one of the most sought after destinations in Northern Botswana, boasting a great diversity of game and a peaceful atmosphere. The area offers spectacular birding all year round and is best known for its large herds of elephants that move down to the Linyanti River at the start of the winter months and only move back inland once the main rains arrive. Lion, sable, roan, leopard, and wild dog are also frequent visitors to Linyanti as is the elusive sitatunga antelope, red lechwe, hippo and crocodile.

Day 5

There are a number of platforms and hides from which to view and photograph animals and birds. One of the best hides is right at the source of the Savute Channel, from which many species of game and birdlife can be seen. Water levels permitting, explore the Linyanti River by boat or barge, the latter perfect for picnics or sundowners or searching out those elusive birds so prevalent in the channels. Seasonal fishing is permitted on a catch-and-release basis. The camp has a small stock of basic rods and reels. Birding is outstanding here, from Okavango specials to mopane woodland species. The Savute Channel is famous for its high concentration of eagles and raptors; this area is internationally recognised as an IBA (Important Bird Area).

Day 6

After the morning activity and breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip for the scheduled charter flight to Kasane Airport. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred by road to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, clearing customs and immigration formalities en route. Her you will stay at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge for two nights. At 4:15 pm you will be collected from your hotel and taken on a Ra-Ikane Sunset cruise, including drinks and snacks. This boat was handmade to resemble a turn of the century riverboat, and is luxuriously finished with teak superstructure, brass fittings and club chairs giving guests a taste of Victorian splendor in the heart of Africa. Named after one of the first guides to lead Dr. Livingstone to the Victoria Falls, a cruise on the Ra Ikane will take you up and into the smaller, pristine channels of the Zambezi.

Day 7

At 8:15 am you will be collected from Victoria Falls Safari Lodge and taken on a Scheduled Tour of the Falls. The words of David Livingstone, “On sights as beautiful as this, angels in their flight must have gazed,” most aptly describe the beauty of this breathtaking natural world wonder. Known to the local Kololo people as Mosi-oa-Tunya, or the “smoke that thunders”, Victoria Falls is truly a sight to be taken in. Almost two km wide and 108 m high, with an average water flow of one million liters per second, Victoria Falls is nothing short of astonishing. View the falls from several vantage points on your guided walking tour. The afternoon is at leisure to explore on your own.

Day 8

Transfer to Victoria Falls International Airport for your scheduled flight to Hwange National Park. Here you will be met and transferred to Somalisa Tented Camp where camp where you will stay for three nights. Arrive in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive. Somalisa Tented Camp is set in the heart of Hwange National Park Zimbabwe, and is known as the land of the giants for its big elephant herds. Nestled in a stunning location tucked away on an acacia island along the edge of an ancient seasonal flood plain, Somalisa provides guests with breathtaking views of the savannah plains across the famous Kennedy Vlei line. Day 9

Hwange National Park is the largest reserve in Zimbabwe and home to one of the highest concentration of game: the park boasts more than 100 different animal species and over 400 species of birds. A vast semi-arid acacia savannah, Hwange National Park lures massive herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as the visitors that follow in search of the premier wildlife experience. Explore the salt pans that spot the park or simply drive the vast open terrain. Chances are you will gain the safari experience for which you are looking. This unbeatable wild elephant sanctuary is known for its large herds of elephant and the Somalisa concession in Hwange National Park affords you with your private African wildlife encounters from the minute you step out of your tent. Day 11

After the morning activity and breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for the scheduled charter flight to Victoria Falls. Here you will connect with your onward flight.
