Cape Town’s natural beauty, cosmopolitan flavor and rich cultural diversity offer guests a variety of ways to experience the oldest city in South Africa – hence its name: The Mother City.
Walk the summit of Table Mountain – at 1 086 metres above sea level, there’s a spectacular 360-degree view of the city, sea and the Cape Peninsula. Access to the summit is via the fast and convenient Table Mountain Aerial Cableway.
Explore the city, including the Company’s Garden – where food was grown for passing ships in the 17th century – take in the Houses of Parliament, National Gallery, St George’s Cathedral, and browse for keepsakes at Greenmarket Square. Pause for a coffee at the legendary ‘steampunk’ Truth Coffee, and taste local delicacies such as biltong and koeksisters near Bree Street.
Take in the highs and lows of Cape Town history, from the Grand Parade, where Nelson Mandela addressed the nation after his release from prison, to the District Six Museum, which highlights the bitter, forced removal of the area’s residents during apartheid. The brightly painted houses and cobblestone streets of the Bo-Kaap provide wonderful photo opportunities – but don’t ignore the poignant history of the people living there. A visit to the spice shop is also a must!
*Full Day City Discovery Pass – Providing full flexibility including conservation fees (Table Mountain Cableway weather permitting); selected Museums, Truth Coffee, Bo Kaap, Kirstenbosch and various points of interest.

The exclusive hamlets of Bakoven and Llandudno are also gorgeous sights to take in on your way to the fishing village of Hout Bay. Next, you’ll navigate the breathtaking curves of Chapman’s Peak Drive as it follows the Peninsula’s rocky coastline, revealing spectacular views in all directions.
At the Cape of Good Hope, which forms part of Table Mountain National Park, you have the opportunity to see some fabulous bird life, as well as very special fauna, such as Cape mountain zebra, bontebok and chacma baboons. Ride the funicular to the Cape Point Lighthouse and capture even more magical vistas of False Bay, or if you are feeling active, hike up from the famous Cape of Good Hope landmark.

Head home through the naval village of Simon’s Town, stop to browse the eclectic range of shops and galleries in bohemian Kalk Bay, and spot the surfers vying for the best waves at Muizenberg.
To round off your day, take a stroll through Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, nestled on the slopes of Table Mountain. Game drives are conducted in open 4-wheel drive safari vehicles in the private reserve. At Rattrays there are a maximum of 4 passengers in the vehicles. The rangers are in constant radio communication with one another to keep each other informed about the location of wildlife. The 4-wheel drive safari vehicles enable the rangers to leave the road and provide guests with close up game viewing and fantastic photographic opportunities. Night drives, with the aid of powerful spotlights, bring the bush to life at night.
Game viewing on MalaMala Game Reserve is exclusive to the camps on MalaMala and we do not share traversing with adjacent reserves. As a result the human impact is kept to a minimum and guests are able to enjoy wildlife sightings for longer periods thus increasing their photographic opportunities. The perennial Sand River runs north to south through the reserve proving a plentiful supply of water especially during the dry winter months. The river provides water for wildlife from as far away as the Kruger National Park during this time.
At approximately 9:30 am, you will return to camp where a hearty breakfast awaits you in the air-conditioned dining room or on the expansive safari deck. For the more energetic, join the bush walk after breakfast. Alternatively relax around the pool, browse through the safari boutique, work out in the small gym or perhaps take a siesta to make up for that early morning wake-up call.
A buffet lunch is served from 1:30 pm though some prefer to sleep through after their later breakfast. Once again meet at 4:00 pm for hot and cold beverages and a light snack on the expansive safari deck before departing on another unforgettable safari. An African sunset is memorable and oft emotional sight.
As darkness approaches, your ranger will scan the bush with a powerful spotlight and will point out the elusive nocturnal wildlife – a highlight of the day’s safari. As darkness settles over the bush, look out for the Milky Way – a truly spectacular sight – or try to find the Southern Cross. Return to camp at approximately 8:00 pm, allowing time for you to freshen up before meeting your friends and rangers for pre-dinner drinks in the cozy Safari Bar. While seated around a log fire under the starry African sky, enjoy the superb food and excellent wines – yet another highlight of the MalaMala experience.
