Day 2

Enjoy one full day of activities at Little Oliver’s Camp.

This relatively undeveloped park – celebrated by safari travelers looking to head a little off the beaten track – offers a welcome respite from the crowds of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater to the north. Oliver’s is perfectly situated to ensure a year-round Tanzania safari experience as each passing season paints Tarangire in vibrant new colors.

Tarangire boasts large herds of elephant and buffalo, plus a large concentration of big cats and arguably the best bird diversity in East Africa with more than 500 species. But there’s more to Tarangire than the game and birds. This rugged landscape offers a unique safari backdrop that transforms from rolling grasslands and vibrant swamps to forests of enigmatic baobab trees; according to legend, planted ‘upside down’ for growing too tall and proud.

Morning, afternoon and night game drives are done within the park. Walking safaris are a specialty of Little Oliver’s Camp. The privilege of walking in these natural areas gives you an exhilarating feeling of adventure. Although you’ll usually get close to large mammals such as elephant, giraffe, buffalo or even lion, walking safaris are very safe. Guests can also book a fly camping experience which is typically booked as part of a walking safari or as an exclusive and private night away from the main camp. This small and intimate lightweight camp is a fantastic experience for those seeking something a little more adventurous.

Day 3

At a time to be advised: You will be transferred by a camp vehicle to the airstrip for your scheduled charter flight to The Highlands Ngorongoro, where you will stay for two nights.

The Highlands Camp is set in a perfectly private location at the edge of the mountain forest that hugs the Olmoti Volcano, 40 kilometers to the north of the famous Ngorongoro Crater. The highest-altitude property within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA), the camp has heart-stopping views spanning east and west: take in both sunset and sunrise framed by the Gol Mountains in the northwest, Empakaai Crater in the east and the Olmoti Crater rim to the south.

Time permitting, depart an an afternoon Olmoti climb.  Starting directly from camp, the Olmoti climb follows an ancient Maasai cattle trail through mountain forest, grasslands and rocky outcrops. Make the most of outstanding birding opportunities and the chance to see a vast array of butterfly species. At the top, you are rewarded with a magnificent view of the crater below.

Day 4

Enjoy one full day game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater.

Enjoy a game drive in one of the most game-rich areas in the world, the Ngorongoro Crater. After breakfast, you descend with a picnic lunch through the early morning mists and 2,000 feet into the crater. Ngorongoro Crater is the World’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Explore the vast 300km2 floor with an experienced guide and stop for lunch in a shady spot under the trees, maximizing your time in this unforgettable landscape. Due to its size and diversity, the crater floor is comprised of several distinct areas, ranging from forest, swamps, lakes and springs, to open grassland and some sandy dunes. It’s an awesome wildlife experience. You will return to the lodge in the late afternoon.

Day 5

At a time to be advised: You will be transferred by a camp vehicle to the airstrip for your scheduled charter flight to Dunia Camp, where you will stay for three nights.

Time permitting, enjoy lunch and an afternoon activity.

Dunia Camp embraces the philosophy of leaving the lightest possible footprint on the earth. Weathered wood, sturdy canvas and elegant linens make the mess tent comfortable and atmospheric, while brass hurricane lanterns add a flicker of traditional charm. Settle into one of the old leather armchairs and watch as the sun drops behind the iconic granite outcrops before you sit down to dinner in the beautiful mess tent or outdoors under the stars. Dunia is a tranquil semi-permanent camp with just eight spacious tented suites, each with expansive views of the pristine wilderness and game-filled plains from a private veranda. Attention to every detail balances a graceful simplicity in harmony with the serene location. Enjoy an exclusive Serengeti safari with superb sightings of resident game and annual migration viewing, and round it all off with a sunrise hot-air balloon flight.

Day 6 – 7

Enjoy two full days of game viewing activities at Dunia Camp.

Within Dunia’s wide valleys around camp you will discover that there is far more to the Serengeti than infinite seas of waving grass.

Game drives

Wildlife-viewing and bird-watching game drives are offered twice a day from Dunia, allowing you to explore the hidden corners of the central and southern Serengeti with an expert guide. Dunia utilizes both open vehicles (with canvas roof and canvas sides that can be rolled down if it rains) and closed vehicles (with closed sides but windows and roof hatches that allow you to stand). Rain ponchos and Maasai shuka blankets are available to keep you comfortable if it is wet or cold. All vehicles have power points where you can recharge your devices, and are fitted with fridges to keep your drinks deliciously frosty.

Hot-air balloon safaris

This is a romantic and evocative way to experience the wilderness of East Africa. Nothing can beat the feeling of gliding silently over the game-filled plains on a balloon safari, as the early-morning sun rises over the horizon. (at an additional cost)

Bush breakfasts, picnics & dinners

Maximize your time on the game-filled plains by enjoying a delicious packed breakfast or lunch provided by camp chefs while you’re on the move.
